Universal 7 Inch Car Radio Portable Wireless CarPlay Android Auto Stereo Multimedia Player Touch Screen Bluetooth Navigation
The results from last week’s poll are in and it’s clear that Android Auto is the leading car software choice for those of you that drive. Google’s solution captured over 50% of all votes while Apple CarPlay comes at a distant second with just over 17% of the pie. Android Auto and CarPlay are clearly important considerations when buying a new vehicle. This comes as no surprise as both systems offer a greater app selection than the built-in apps on most vehicles’ infotainment systems. They also tend to work smoother and offer a sleek and modern experience but there’s always the question of how long your phone will be supported. Over a quarter of our voters are still confident that they can continue their drives without Google or Apple taking over their dashboards   There’s a close race when it comes to alternatives in the infotainment market, with 38% of voters being content with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto duopoly while over 34% are open to try different approaches from other companies. We’ve seen Chinese brands Meizu and its Flyme Auto interface and Huawei’s HarmonyOS take some steps but they are still a long way from reaching the userbases of Apple and Google. Perhaps, GM’s new in-vehicle infotainment system set to debut on the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV may change things around but as it stands, Apple and Google are still the preferred in-car infotainment systems for the majority.

The Bluetooth connectivity that was becoming standard for hands-free calling was not robust enough to handle the data transfer required for these phone systems, which override your car’s multimedia features to offer entertainment, navigation, communication and digital assistant applications. More recent wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto has required further upgrades to the car’s infotainment hardware and software. The wireless rollout came gradually at first, starting with wireless Apple CarPlay from BMW for the 2017 model year, then other premium vehicles and select aftermarket multimedia systems. But the appeal of no cords was clear, and wireless charging has increased the appetite for untethered phone integration. To be sure, many new vehicles still require a USB cord, and even if wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is offered, it often is optional or only on more expensive trim levels. But the same was also true at first for Bluetooth calling and, more recently, wired smartphone integration.

China’s Emergence As A Global Car Player Is Challenging Hyundai And Kia
China exported 994,000 vehicles overseas in the first quarter, and many of them compete in the same price range as the Koreans   Chinese-made cars continue to rise in popularity globally, so much so that China established itself as the world’s top automobile exporter in the first quarter of this year, snatching the crown away from Japan and giving Korean rivals something to think about. Data from the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) reveals that China exported 994,000 vehicles in Q1, consisting of 826,000 passenger cars and 168,000 commercial vehicles. By comparison, Japan exported 954,000 vehicles through the first three months of 2023. The Korea Times notes that China has started to export more expensive vehicles in recent years, making its vehicles more appealing in wealthier countries across Europe, as well as the likes of the United Kingdom and Australia. Indeed, the average export price per Chinese car hit $16,400 in 2022, a significant 27% rise from the $12,900 in 2018. It is possible the average price will exceed $20,000 this year. Read: China Overtakes Japan As World’s Biggest Exporter Of Automobiles   “Last year, China became the second-largest exporter and this year, in April, it became the largest,” Lee Hang-koo from the Korea Automotive Technology Institute said. “Although China will continue to grow its domestic market, ultimately, to solve the supply and demand issue, it has no choice but to expand into the export market as the local market is already saturated. That’s why they made this declaration and embarked on an export drive.” It’s not just vehicles from Chinese carmakers that have contributed to the greater export numbers. Foreign-owned firms like Tesla, Volvo, and Mercedes-Benz also build cars in China for global markets. In fact, Tesla exported 270,000 vehicles from China last year, ranking it as the third largest car exporter in the country.

Reasons for Tesla’s 6-degree price cut and GM’s dismissal of Apple...The real gold of electric cars is 2.6 trillion car software assets
For drivers, it is very natural to connect a mobile phone in the car and connect to Apple's CarPlay or Google's Android Auto. In the blink of an eye, the communication, navigation, music and other functions of the mobile phone can be synchronized with the car. General pushes its own software Will refuse to load Apple and Android systems   However, General Motors, the largest car dealer in the United States, made a decision in early April that broke the market glasses, announcing that future electric models will no longer be equipped with CarPlay and Android Auto, but will be exclusive to its own in-vehicle system Ultifi. Take CarPlay, which has a relatively high market share, as an example. At present, 98% of new cars in the United States have installed it. Why should GM risk confronting the majority of Apple users and push its own products? What GM is looking at is the automotive software market with amazing potential. Only by winning the platform can it seize the opportunity and turn software into a new revenue engine.   According to the forecast of the consulting firm McKinsey, the automotive software market will reach US$84 billion (approximately NT$2.6 trillion) in 2030, and the value of software in a vehicle will also increase from about 10% today. to 30%. Apple has sensed this business opportunity early on, so it announced at the Developers Conference (WWDC) last year that CarPlay will be fully upgraded, from simply extending the mobile phone to the car, and evolving into a car system that is fully integrated with the vehicle hardware. Seats, and even the dashboard, can be set by themselves through CarPlay and monitor the vehicle status. Audi, Ford, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Nissan and more than 10 car dealers are listed on the first wave of the list. This is a crucial step for Apple to enter the auto market. If it can capture the market share of in-vehicle systems, subsequent users will naturally download related car applications (Apps) from Apple's platform. The strategy of the car factory is to concentrate on making cars by itself and hand over the software to technology companies like Apple. It can also use this to attract consumers and consolidate market share by focusing on seamless integration.   However, the in-vehicle system determines which car software the user uses. If a car manufacturer gives up developing its own system, or is replaced by a third party, it is tantamount to giving up the software pie to others. Tesla is a representative of the opposition camp, and has never opened up CarPlay and Android Auto to introduce its own system. GM now chooses to keep up with Tesla's footsteps, and the fat and water will not fall into the fields of outsiders. To this end, GM is actively improving its software capabilities. Not only has its own self-driving system Super Cruise reached the level of hands-free steering wheel and automatic lane change, but it also invites software developers to use its own platform to develop apps. In addition to basic in-vehicle entertainment, broadcasting, and news, there are also functions such as advanced vehicle status tracking, fleet management, and route planning, and it has gradually formed its own ecosystem. "These features can't be delivered through CarPlay and Android Auto, we have to create them, we have to convince consumers that it's better," GM Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson told the Wall Street Journal. In 2021, about 4.2 million GM car owners, or a quarter of the total, are willing to pay for car app subscription services, bringing GM $2 billion in revenue.   Global manufacturers are not relentless in reducing prices Selling software and services is the source of profit GM is not the only party involved in the war. Major manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen are also building their own in-vehicle systems. Another reason why car dealers have joined the software war is because in the era when electric car dealers are competing with each other, the price war has quietly started, and the only way to maintain profits in the future is software. Taking Tesla as an example, it has lowered the price of electric vehicles in the United States six times this year, with a cumulative drop of up to 25%. The financial report for the first quarter was not good, with a 24% year-on-year profit drop, but CEO Musk did not care , expressing that "the decline in profits should continue to cut prices in pursuit of sales." The price war is fierce, but Tesla's full self-driving (FSD) service has not been lowered. Last year, the price was raised twice. It is a third of the price of Model Y. Musk said at a recent meeting that it is expected to achieve true full self-driving this year, and that is the source of profit creation. "Technically speaking, we are the only sales vehicle that can make almost zero profit now, but in the future we will create considerable profits through self-driving. Profitable car dealers.”     Morgan Stanley estimates in 2021 that if Tesla's total sales can increase from 1.5 million (editor's note: currently about 1.9 million) to 35 million to 40 million within 10 years as expected, At that point, Tesla's software revenue will exceed its hardware revenue. This is also the calculation of GM, which is currently planning to build a "Netflix-level" subscription empire to increase revenue. GM estimates that subscription services could generate $20 billion to $25 billion in annual revenue in 2030, about 10 times the current amount. On the other hand, last June, GM's best-selling affordable electric car, the Chevrolet Bolt, also cut the price by $6,000 to maintain market competitiveness. Hyundai Motor also said that about 30% of future profits will come from software services, while its electric car model Kona was only reduced by 9% at the end of last year. This model of reducing the price of vehicles and switching to software is being staged among major car dealers.         Today's car software battle is just like the iPhone back then. Apple insists on developing iOS by itself. Now relying on its exclusive platform, although mobile phone sales will only more than double in the 10 years to 2022, software revenue will However, it has grown by nearly 4 times, and the number of subscriptions has increased by 29 times. Although it is difficult for mobile phone manufacturers to replicate the iPhone’s experience in creating an exclusive platform, it may be worth taking a gamble on the new battlefield of electric vehicles.

Lastest company news about Apple's CarPlay will also be abandoned by the times? 2023/04/24
Apple's CarPlay will also be abandoned by the times?
A few days ago, the American auto giant General Motors did something that was madly sprayed: they were going to give up Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto (for the convenience of everyone’s reading, only CarPlay is mentioned below).   Of course, GM didn't dare to go too far with this kind of early bird. Castration CarPlay is not aimed at models that are already on the market, and fuel vehicles that will be released in the next few years will not be affected. The restrictions are only on the electric vehicles that will be launched by the company.   However, when the news of GM's castration of CarPlay came out, I didn't say big guys. Just look at the attitude of the media and you will know how unpopular it is. Since everyone is upset, why would GM do this? In fact, it just did what car companies wanted to do but didn't dare to do. As early as when CarPlay first came out, car companies were not interested in it. For example, the wireless CarPlay solution launched in 2015 was not installed on the car for the first time until 2016. After that, car companies competed with each other for selling points. Only various installations. A few years ago, some media people said that Toyota thought it would be a huge mistake to hand over such a valuable property as a car to Apple, but the reality is that it didn’t take long for almost all of them to come standard with CarPlay. Other manufacturers have not been able to completely reject CarPlay, is GM floating? Of course, this is not decided by GM with a slap in the head, mainly because GM CEO Mary Barra (Mary Barra) proposed a business diversification plan before, saying that it is to "actively expand software and service revenue." And to do this, CarPlay is of course a thorn in the side. But if you want to unplug CarPlay, is GM's own car hard enough? From historical experience, it is actually very soft. As early as 2011, GM launched the car-machine system CUE, but at that time, the stinky car maker couldn't play the system. Almost every button has a delay of more than 5S, and it crashes at every turn. The voice recognition is too stupid to understand anything. To this day, everyone still shakes their heads when they talk about CUE. But General Motors did not give up. In the same year when they announced the comprehensive transformation of electrification, they launched a new car-machine platform Ultifi, which was officially used just this year. So many people also speculate that cutting CarPlay is to make way for its own Ultifi. Does this mean that GM is confident in Ultifi? It's possible, but probably not the main reason.   Everyone knows that in the past, car companies were limited by their technical strength when building cars, and on the other hand, they were a bit arrogant in managing production and neglecting maintenance. As a result, the cars and machines back then were simply synonymous with disaster. Bad interface design, confusing page layout, lagging, etc. are too numerous to count.   Until 2014, Apple brought CarPlay, this little cutie and the various cars and machines of car companies back then, and the experience gap in all aspects. Its entry made the car screen no longer eat dust.   In just a few years, CarPlay has swept the entire automotive industry, and various car companies have "supported CarPlay" as a major selling point of their models, and many old car owners are willing to pay for additional installations out of their own pockets.   Today, CarPlay has become one of the most important needs when people buy a car. According to a report by Strategy Analytics in the past few years, 23% of new car buyers in the United States said they "must" have CarPlay, and more than three in China 1 in 10 love CarPlay.   Apple has also publicly stated that nearly 80% of car buyers will only consider buying a car that supports CarPlay.   But the days when car companies are equipped with CarPlay are obviously not so happy.   Starting in 2020, many car companies have begun to cancel CarPlay pre-installation on some models and use their own car-machine systems instead.   For example, the Ford Edge supports CarPlay before the 2018 model, but after the 2020 model, it no longer has built-in CarPlay. Many models of Honda and Volkswagen have also canceled the original CarPlay. . .   There are many reasons why people don't use CarPlay.   The first is the cost issue. Although Apple does not currently charge CarPlay usage fees, access to CarPlay requires MFI certification, hardware purchases, and other expenses.   There is no public data on how much it is, but it can be speculated from the subscription fees that BMW has collected from users for CarPlay: a down payment of $300 and an annual payment of $80. The price is not too big or too small, but the car manufacturers are more or less unwilling to pay:   I obviously brought the car with me from the factory and you don’t need it, so I have to pay for the service for everyone to use for free, and finally Apple will take the data away.   In the past, car companies' own cars were not strong enough, and all colleagues in the industry were "paying tribute", so everyone gritted their teeth and followed the trend.   More importantly, after the wave of car intelligence hits, the value of car-machine systems has risen again and again. McKinsey analysts predict that by 2030, the sales of car software may reach 50 billion US dollars.   Therefore, car companies have found that using CarPlay is not simply losing the sesame seeds. If this continues, they may not even be able to keep the watermelon.   In addition to the huge software market, another reason why car companies are chilling is that they feel that Apple's new CarPlay has crossed the line.   At last year's WWDC conference, Apple's ambitious announcement of a new generation of CarPlay once stole the limelight from the M2 chip. picture The next generation of CarPlay will no longer be satisfied with just controlling the big entertainment screen, they have extended their hands to a deeper layer of the car.   According to the description, after the new generation of CarPlay is installed, the car dashboard, temperature control and infotainment unit can be unified and integrated, and the screen and dashboard in the car can be retuned by Apple in the future. To meet these functions, it is not solved by projecting a screen like the first generation. It requires car companies to open up more interfaces, and also needs to transmit various real-time information from the car to the user's iPhone, which will be analyzed and integrated into Apple. In your own software, and finally send it back to the car screen.   The launch of this thing is likely to require car companies to strip themselves clean and "play" with CarPlay naked. Who would be happy to change it? Although according to Apple itself, heavyweight manufacturers such as Honda, Nissan and Renault are "happy" to support the new CarPlay, but more car companies are still struggling. Land Rover and Jaguar said: "It is too early to comment on future products." Mercedes-Benz also said that it has not committed to a new generation of CarPlay: "We internally evaluate all potentially relevant new technologies and functions.". Those with more intense reactions, such as BMW, which was once a loyal supporter of CarPlay, jumped against it. They feel that it is risky to hand over the entire system to other manufacturers for control, and even complain that CarPlay is a technology game that can be played in a few years. How can a century-old car company bow its head easily. Anyway, after looking around, there are no public commitments from car companies, and the new generation of CarPlay will definitely be used in the future. Although everyone will not doubt that CarPlay is the pioneer and leader of car intelligence, it tells everyone that cars can be smooth and concise. Many older models will continue to enjoy the convenience of CarPlay for a long time to come. But before CarPlay was easy to use, and the original car machine relied on the defense, but this does not mean that CarPlay will always lead, and the original car machine will always be difficult to use. The birth of Tesla does not prove that car companies can make cars work well without CarPlay.
