The key task in installing a dashcam is figuring out the best way to route the cables. Here's an optimized version of the installation cable routing instructions:
Identify the optimal placement for the dashcam, ideally on the right side of the rearview mirror inside the car, slightly towards the center for a better, more straight-on angle and higher reference value.
Determine the best cable routing based on the length of the power cord. It's recommended to simulate the cable route first to ensure the power cord is long enough.
Once the dashcam's installation position and cable routing plan are confirmed, the first step is to tuck the dashcam's power cord into the gap in the car's headliner.
After feeding the wire into the headliner, pull down the door frame weatherstrip and then firmly pry open the A-pillar trim with both hands. Most cars have snap-fastened A-pillar trims, so the first removal might be tight; don't hesitate to use some force.
Removing the A-pillar trim is not to run the wire inside the A-pillar, as many car models have side curtain airbags, which could compromise safety. The goal is to allow the power cord to pass smoothly. Insert the wire into the door frame weatherstrip, align the A-pillar snaps, and gently tap the A-pillar trim in place.
Starting from the top of the A-pillar down along the door frame, install the weatherstrip while simultaneously tucking the power cord into it until it exits at the bottom of the dashboard. This step will test your waist flexibility.
After passing the power cord behind the glovebox, depending on the car model, secure the wire behind the glovebox, hide it behind the firewall, or beneath the floor mats. Although this step is a bit tedious, it provides the best visual outcome.
To conceal excess wires near the cigarette lighter, slightly loosen the screws of the lower center console trim, create a small gap, insert the wire, and then tighten the screws. However, due to various car models, flexibility is key.
Connect the dashcam to the cigarette lighter power source, ensure it powers up correctly, and functions properly to complete the cable routing installation, which typically takes around twenty minutes.
